A Toasty Good Morning to you!

Here it is a few weeks gone since my last blog.  I generally like to be in a constant habit of once a week.  But every week I am challenged with things I didn’t expect.  Extra hours at my second job.  Longer hours at my first job.  Kid’s need to be here or there, but, it’s nice to know that somewhere in between, when the dust settles just a bit, that I have a place I can go to express myself.  A place for a cathartic sort of creative release.  A moment to share with others.  To make connections to things outside of myself.

In this fast-paced, high-tech world, we are pressed to push away all that is organic living. It is easy to caught in the grind of what others expect from us, leaving what we expect from ourselves to pale in comparison.  It’s easy forget why we work, why we build families.  Why we are where we are.  Likewise, then, are we called to assess the choices that have brought each of us to where we are at this moment.  I think because of those choices, and the fact that we are where were are, each one of us, that we have a responsibility to share our experiences with one another.  I believe we can learn from those exchanges and enhance those experiences that each one of us will have moving forward after such an exchange .  If we can be willing to be bold enough to express ourselves and unbiased enough to accept the expression of others not placing judgement, we can grow to a better understanding of our purpose here on planet earth.  All we need do is to speak and to listen.  This is what we call communication.

Public speaking is the opportunity not to just share, however.  It is, in fact, an opportunity to find our authentic self.  To realize through the process, not just that of which we might have been unaware in ourselves, but also that which we knew but had forgotten or that in which we simply didn’t have faith or courage.  It is an opportunity to know others in ways in which we otherwise would not have as well as an opportunity in which we can help others to authenticate and to grow and to feel comfortable in sharing.  This process builds confidence in all other areas in our lives as well.  What a powerful concept!!  Every time someone speaks, we are enriched with knowledge we didn’t have, validated on that which we did, and encouraged to share in the same way.

There are many, that no matter what you say, will feel as though the rigors through which a ToastMasters member will journey is a waste of time.  That we can’t better from the experience.  Well, perhaps they ‘have it all in the bag’.  Perhaps they are among the perfect humans who can be no better than where they are. Frankly, I am proud to be among those that realize the value this process holds.  I am happy to know that there is always a better place to be; moving forward and excited to know that there is a better me to be!

I am always happy to encourage others.  I get great enjoyment out of that.  But, that is just the icing on the cake.  My experience is made up of more cake than icing.  It includes helping myself to be better!  If there are others that don’t want that,  it’s really okay.  The most authentic I can be in this experience and in these exchanges, is to do it because it excites me!  It encourages me!  It enlightens me!  it betters me! By doing so, I will automatically desire to share what good comes of it.  What a great starting point to a happier and more fulfilling experience!

Whether you do it, because you are supposed to, or because you want to.  Do it because it certainly isn’t going to hurt you!!

Authenticate yourself, encourage yourself, better yourself, and above all….

Make it a Toasty Day!

Holiday Greetings!

Happy Passover, Happy Easter, Happy Spring!

As we begin to knock off the holidays, at warp speed, one by one, making our way through 2014, we are led to take account of where we are with regards to our goals thus far.  We look, in retrospect, to see how far we have come since January 1st.  Some of us will be excited by the goals we have set and by what we accomplish along the way, some of us will be disappointed by what we have not, but, if we are really lucky, not many of us will feel stagnant, as though nothing has happened.

Some have the great knack for putting the gears in motion and building momentum from the get-go, and, much like a train, keep chugging along, not slowing down or stopping, until they have reached their destination.  Others of us may get started, build some momentum, but not have enough coal in the burner to keep moving forward to reach that destination.  Still, others have no destination at all.  I suppose that it’s okay, no matter the drive, ambition or capability of any given person.  After all, it is up to each individual, what they will do to support their goals.  It is their choice, ultimately, whether or not they make an impact in their own lives or in the lives of others.  But, this world is restless, it’s fast-moving, and this train called life stops to pickup no one without a destination in mind.  It surely seems that going somewhere in life is completely dependent upon DOING something. Whether we move forward a few steps or we move backwards one or two, we need to be in motion.  We are bound to make mistakes,  we are bound to be imperfect we are bound to be human.  All we can do is strive to be the best that we can be, whatever that best really is, doing SOMETHING.

Toastmasters is the kind of organization where you are expected to make mistakes, to be imperfect and to be human. It is designed to accommodate those mistakes and the learning curve that goes with them.  It is meant to lead us to a goal of  being better at that for which we strive.  It gives us a starting point and a destination.  We have goals through Toastmasters to help us assess where we are and where we are going, step by step.  We can go at our own pace and decide for ourselves what our best will be, with no ceiling to what we can accomplish.  We need only, quite simply,  to get ON that train.  The fact is, even if you go only half way to your destination, you will, at least,  be going SOMEWHERE!  It certainly beats standing at the station watching other people getting on and off the train making their destinations!

I would encourage you to consider that train, to not be afraid of how close or how far away your destination may seem to be, and to be open minded for the places you will go and the people you will meet along the way.  It certainly wont be a lonesome ride!

See you at the station and until the next time, Stay Toasty!! 🙂

What a year!

A Toasty Day to all!!

Here it begins! The official blog of SimplexGrinnell/Tyco ,Toastmasters Club Tyco Talkers (District 263 – Mirimar, Florida and I am the Club Secretary, Vicky Daniels, proudly opening THIS our very first Blog for our Toastmaster club Tyco Talkers!  Woo Hoo!

This has been a challenging, but exciting year as we gain momentum, adding members, activities and training to become better speakers and leaders here at Simplex.  We are a Corporate Club (which seems to carry certain connotations) but we are proving that we are not the typical corporate club, with enthusiasm, initiative and gusto!

We enjoy the many pleasures of improving our skills as speakers and encouraging our club members to do the same!  We have met many a challenge with the start of of this Charter Membership as most beginnings are bumpy at first when finding our way.  We have taken on roles and swapped roles, we have learned skills of greater organization and have begun to learn what leadership really means.   All of the officers and myself are dedicated to making this an amazingly fun and industrious club with lots of reasons to join and to stay on board to become greater talents upon whatever it is that we endeavor.  We are creative and inventive, we are focused and driven, and are willing to do the work to get where we need to be.   Everyone needs to start somewhere to better themselves.  We are starting here!  How could we go wrong?!

I am joined by my fellow board members and club members at this, the onslaught of something really great, to move forward sharing all that we can through this club and through our blog, that which is encouraging, insightful and useful to all who visit here.

Feel free to share in this blog with questions or comments or even words of encouragement!  In the meantime, We’ll SPEAK at you soon!!

Toastily Yours,

Vicky Daniels, Club Secretary Tyco Talkers
